  REINFORCEMENT OBJECTIVE: To three-dimensionally reinforce Hot Mix Asphalt pavements by controlling reflective cracking, shoving, rutting and other stability-related problems.
   
  The secret to reinforcing almost any construction material is historically simple - add fibers throughout the material to add strength, toughness, and durability. FORTA capitalizes on this three-dimensional theory by providing a strong and chemically inert synthetic fiber - FORTA AR (Asphalt Reinforcement) - that mixes quickly and distributes uniformly in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixing systems. Once distributed, the FORTA AR fibers act as reinforcing binder in both conventional and modified HMA mixes, offering improvements to stability-related problems often incurred in un-reinforced asphalt pavements. Though the millions of distributed fibers are easily detectable in the hot asphalt mix, they become virtually invisible on the pavement surface, and require no modifications to normal lay-down and compaction practices. By controlling reflective cracking, shoving, and rutting, FORTA AR fibers have become a cost-effective way to improve the durability and longevity of a wide variety of Hot Mix Asphalt applications. FORTA AR is a proprietary blend of two synthetic fibers that work together to enhance the performance of asphalt. FORTA AR consists of unique twisted-bundle polypropylene networks (tan fiber) to aid in mixing and distribution, and high-strength, high-temperature aramid fibers (bright yellow) to reinforce and improve HMA properties.

FORTA AR has been involved in a considerable amount of research throughout it's product history. Though substantial data has been generated in conventianal asphalt labaoratory research programs, much of the most valuble information has come from testing of FORTA AR - reinforced specimens that were cast from actual field-project batches. Tests have included a wide variety of research parameters, such as compressive strength, tensile strength, stability, creep, and fatigue strength. The FORTA AR blend has reinforced asphalt projects all over the world ranging from municipal streeets and roadways to commercial and idustrial and industrial parking lots - even residential driveways.
